CALGARY CITY GUIDE

I have lived in Calgary my entire life, 28 beautiful years. I have thought many times about moving to another city just to mix things up, but Calgary has proven to be a great home base, and continues to grow with arts and culture.

Calgary is most known for the annual Calgary Stampede which includes a rodeo, midway, concerts, and exhibitions. It is been a tradition here for over 100 years, and is a citywide celebration of the cityโ€™s history and culture. Calgary is home to a booming oil and gas industry, and is also a short 1.5 hour drive to the rocky mountains which include beautiful towns, hikes, and stunning scenery. We also have amazing sunsets here.

Best Time To Visit

The best time to visit Calgary is in the summer when the Stampede takes place, the weather is warm, and many music and cultural festivals take place.

Places I Like

Another a great place for dinner.

The Blues Can

Great live blues music and yummy soul food.

The Ship and Anchor

Ways To Travel Around

The C-train is an inexpensive and efficient way to travel through downtown, the NW, NE and SE, and is free within most of downtown core. Calgary also has many easy to navigate bus routes, and is expanding their bike lanes every year.

Additional Tips

FFWD Magazine

Be sure to pick up the latest copy of FFWD magazine, which is a great guide for local music and arts events, and also has a thorough online listing of the best of Calgary including food, shopping, bars, and parks.

Clothing and Weather

Calgary is known for its unpredictable weather. Be sure to bring a sweater or jacket for the evenings in the summer and keep in mind that in the winter we get a lot of sunshine and sometimes warm winds that melt every inch of snow on the ground. So bring sunglasses and a variety of clothing. If you do visit in the winter, Calgary has a network of walkways connecting many of our downtown core buildings so you can keep warm while exploring.
