Places I Like
From the riad to the El Fna Square, Marrakech is brimming with food, culture, colour and cats. The Medina is the old, historic district of the city and Djemaa El Fna square is the starting point to explore – life, antiques, colors, smells, people, noise, shopping, traffic… The square is usually packed with tourists being amused by snake charmers, acrobats, or the musicians and food stalls.
As the evening darkens, the exotic music sounds louder and crazy. The Medina is surrounded by endless labyrinths of souks. Some souks are chaotic and full of life; scooters, cats and exotic fruits. You can buy just everything and you have to bargain a price for it.
They’ll always have a “ price for you!”. You can see the Koutoubia mosque from anywhere in Marrakech. The Marjorelle Gardens house has a collection of plants in her Yves Saint Laurent’s villa. Take the inevitable trip to the palm grove.
From there, head to the Ménara, one of Marrakesh’s most symbolic places. This elegant building, which you can recognize by its green tiles, is surrounded by an immense ornamental lake. You ought to visit the Dar Si Said Museum and Bahia Palace. Don’t miss the Saadian Tombs, they have great architectural value. Take your time to explore the Ali ben Youssef Medersa (Madraza).
The Medersa was built in the 16th century by the Saadians and could house up to 900 religious students. If you have any time left, go to the desert or Essaouira, a fortified town
